An organization called Celebrate Positive partnered with CCSD Athletics (and other systems around the state) several years ago to implement a program called Positive Athlete. In essence, their mission is to recognize and celebrate young people who are positive, supportive teammates with their teams and solid citizens in school and in the community. They feel that the great athletes generally get their due, but the ones who may not be the stars on the field but are stars on the sidelines and in the hallways are sometimes overshadowed and underappreciated. Their goal is to recognize at least one, if not two or three or four, truly outstanding Positive Athletes in each of our 25 sports at Walton High School. In addition to recognition on the local level, the Celebrate Positive organization will select a Most Positive Athlete in each sport on both county- and state-wide levels and these winners will have the opportunity to compete for scholarship money.
We are soliciting nominations from our coaches, but the organization also welcomes nominations from parents, who often can provide more detail about the students’ positive attributes away from the court or field. So, we would like you to forward this email to the families in your organization so that they can make nominations. And while they like to celebrate the kids who might not get the recognition that the star athletes often get, if the best player on the team also happens to be the most positive athlete on the team, he or she can certainly be nominated, too.
